ALTA Plan 2014/15

Two ALTA Good Practice Reports Commissioned for 2013–2014:

Aligned with the ACDICT Action Plan re ICT Skills, two Good Practice Reports have been commissioned from members of the ACDICT ICT community

Commissioned Good Practice Reports are for up to $15,000 each and are to be completed by 1 May 2014.

There was one round of an Expression of Interest to be submitted by end October 2013 on this form which includes the guidelines

 

The two Commissioned Good Practice Reports for 2013–2014 are:

 

Project Leader: Jo Coldwell-Neilson (Deakin) with Jenine Beekhuyzen (Griffith) for the topic concerned with recruitment and retention of female ICT students

Exploring the contexts of ICT degrees with high female participation

Interim Report: Females in ICT degrees

Final Reort: Encouraging female enrolments in ICT degrees

 

Project Leader: Judy Sheard (Monash) with Michael Morgan (Monash) and Matthew Butler (Monash) concerned with the experiences of first year students in ICT courses

Experiences of first year students in ICT courses: good teaching practices

New ALTA Executive

Academic Resource Network for Engineering and ICT Australia: ARNEIA

ARNEIA is a new website to provide a service to support educators and enhance learning and teaching in Engineering and ICT by providing convenient access to:

  • A directory of contacts with discipline-based learning and teaching champions
  • Resources created by academics
  • Academic projects that are in progress or have been completed
  • Funding opportunities from various organisations
  • News of recent significant developments
  • A calendar of learning and teaching events

 

ALTA Grants for 2013–2014: Applications Closed

Grants are available in two categories:
  Learning and Teaching, three grants – up to $15,000 each
  Engagement, three grants – up to $10,000 each

Details of the ALTA Grant Scheme for 2013–14 outline the priorities and process. As given in the table below, Expressions of Interest (EOI) are sought in the first instance and are to be submitted on the relevant forms (either PDF or Word):

The Fellows met in Sydney at the ACS, Thursday 22 December 2011 to start planning their Fellowship, and held a consultation workshop at the Learning and Teaching Forum at QUT, 12-13 April, 2012.

ALTA Executive, Mission and Objectives

The ACDICT Learning and Teaching Academy (ALTA) is managed through a Working Group of the Council (and is called the ALTA Executive) and subject to the Mission and Objectives of the Council. A member of the ACDICT Executive has responsibility for ALTA (and is known as the ALTA President).

ALTA’s Mission, Objectives and Activities are consistent with those of the Council, and specifically concern learning and teaching in the ICT disciplines.

Participation in ALTA activities and initiatives is open to anyone working in learning and teaching in ICT at an ACDICT member university.

ALTA Executive from 2014

 

The ALTA Executive shall comprise the ALTA President who is an ACDICT Executive Member with the education portfolio ( Iwona Misiszewska), and the ACDICT Executive Officer (Tony Koppi).

 

The ALTA Executive may also include, at the ALTA President’s discretion, up to four invited ALTA Executive Members from the ACDICT member institutions for a term of up to 2 years (renewable, if required). The invited Executive Members should:

  • hold influential positions amongst the ICT community
  • be able to provide national and international perspectives and advice to the ALTA President
  • represent a range of ICT disciplines and universities
  • be able to disseminate ALTA activities

The ALTA President may also invite a member from outside the ICT community, if required.

 

The ALTA Executive will meet annually at the ALTA Forum, and one more time, if required. ACDICT will bear travel costs of the ALTA Executive Members to the meetings.

 

 

Mission

To contribute to improvement in the perception of and the actual quality of learning and teaching across the ICT disciplines

Objectives

Through networking, collaboration and cooperation:

  • Promote effective approaches to ICT education 
  • Support the culture of good learning and teaching across ICT disciplines
  • Provide a focal point for the dissemination of information regarding ICT education
  • Facilitate multi-institutional evidence-based ICT education initiatives
  • Formulate collective responses to changes in the education environment
  • Enable benchmarking to address the demands of external agencies.

Working Party to establish ALTA in 2010

Under the leadership of Professor Janet Verbyla, the Working Party met in Sydney on 23 November, 2010 to establish the Mission, Objectives and Activities of the ALTA. The Working Party consisted of:

The current Working Party is the interim Executive of ALTA. This ALTA Executive will manage the proposed Activities, including funding guidelines provided by the Council for ALTA projects and activities, and the assessment of project applications and the provision of final recommendations for funding to the ACDICT Executive.
